Start at the carpark in the centre of Acton, 100 metres from The Star Inn. After leaving the car park, turn right along the Chester Road, pass the church on your left, then turn right down Wilbraham Road. Continue down the path, carrying on through a small field to a bridge.
Go down the steps to the towpath and turn right (keeping the canal on your left). Follow the path for 1 1/2 miles to Hurleston Junction, where the first lock gates tower on your left.
Cross over the bridge and walk alongside the locks. At bridge 8 , just beyond the next lock go under the bridge to leave the towpath and turn right on the road (away from the bridge and not over it). Keep left on the road and look for a footpath signed on the right.
Cross the stile and follow the footpath across a short field to another. Then cross the farm access road and continue straight to reach a tarmacked lane. Follow the drive opposite Madam’s Farm. Where this bends right, take the footpath beside the hedge on the left and go over the stile. The track is obvious and after a few fields meets a broad gravelled track at the far side- turn left here. Finally join the pavement beside the main road, with the car park on the opposite side.
