Start and finish your walk at the Fingle Bridge Inn, where you can take your pooch after your walk. This is all off lead but be cautious of other dogs and children- free parking.

The walk is a pair of choices. For the less energetic, cross the bridge, go to your right and walk up the less steep side of the valley for half the distance you think you can manage and return. This is great for water-loving dogs. They will have a great time and there are no ‘off-lead’ risks. There are easy to follow paths throughout so no need to worry about getting lost.

If you want a longer walk, go through the gate on the car park side and head up the north side of the valley. This side has a fair few steep sections, turns and scrambles as it goes up and down from the river level. Some sections can be blocked if the fiver floods. Eventually, you reach a footbridge. Continue on, you will emerge into the Castle Drogo park and gardens. Cross the bridge, turn left, go over a wall, turn left and after a short while you will come to a gate where you can re-join paths on the south side that bring you back down to Fingle Bridge – the round trip is a bit over two hours at a leisurely pace.
