There are two car parks, the main ‘Beech’ is at the Shire lane end of High Elms Rd. The other Cuckoo Wood one is about 500 yards up on the left past the gold club by about another 300 yards. This used to be a Manor House and the foundations are still marked. It is next to a gold course too which you are allowed onto with the usual care taken. But otherwise there are loads of criss crossing paths through the woods with signs here and there to direct you back to the car parks. There are also several huge open fields that are way away from roads. For large breed owners there are only kissing gates to navigate where you need to cross into fields etc – so no stiles!
The Beech Car Park has a dog friendly café and a learning centre with walks etc arranged for kids. You can also cross the road opposite the entrance to the Cuckoo Wood car park to continue into more woods and fields and there is an enclosed field here with 4 kissing gates that should stop dogs getting out for those with escapers.
Most people in here are dog walkers. There are some bridle paths that allow limited access to horses but only in a few places. There are also some deer in here that you might see if you are lucky.
