    GBGW 2015 – Sunday 21 June

Oh yes – GBGW 2015 plans are already underway! Our date is Sunday 21st June, so reserve the date in your diary now for the must do greyhound, lurcher, sighthound event!

We expect to have even more walk venues in 2015 than we did in 2014. So loads of wonderful places to choose from where you can meet, walk, chat with old and new sighthound chums.

Between then and now the GBGW team are working away to make GBGW 2015 another memorable event. We’re doing a revamp of the website, updating all our information for organisers, doing lots of chatter and competitions on Facebook, contacting as many people as we can to promote GBGW and remind them of what a fantastic day it is.

See the website for events near you.

The 10th and Final Bowood Charity Dog Show & Summer Fair
    Sunday 21st June 2015, 10am to 5pm

    Every Dog Has Its Day
This will be the 10th (and final )Bowood Charity Dog Show and Summer Fair, held to raise funds for charities serving the people of Wiltshire (just under £250,000 donated to date); a great family day out, whether or not you have a dog.

For our final show, some old favourites will be making one last appearance – including the Essex Dog Display Team, Thérèse and Temujin (Lady Chichester’s camels), Joseph’s Amazing Racing Pigs, Olivants Equine ‘Big & Little’, Bill Galpin’s Racing Terriers, Falconry displays and the Greatwood Shetland ponies.

New this year for food lovers will be the Bake It Big Productions show: they put the rock into rolling pin with a variety of celebrity bakers, chefs and hosts (final line-up to be confirmed). There will be a dance stage featuring demonstrations and classes of various dance types. Moving amongst the crowd will be Higher Beings – stilt walking costumed characters providing visual entertainment. A timeless sight in Devizes is the team of two Wadworth Shire Horses who still deliver beer in the town by dray. They will be on show – a good chance to get up close and ask their grooms all about them. Further information on the attractions can be found on our website.

One of the important parts of the day is the Dog Show, comprising family and fun classes, with companion classes for pedigree dogs, all being held under Kennel Club rules. There will be several Have-A-Go events in which you and your dog can take part: Agility, Splash & Fetch, Recall, the Fun Dog Scurry and Lurcher & Terrier racing – all fun to take part in and even better entertainment to watch!

There are also displays, attractions, and activities for children, including fun rides, circus workshop and donkeys. There will be a shopping village with varied stalls and a Farmers’ Market. Licensed bars and a variety of food stands complete the picture.

Admission on the day is Adult £10, Child (2-16) £5 and children under two FREE. Carer accompanying wheelchair user FREE. Dogs, of course, are FREE. Advance tickets only available until 8th June from and are Adult £8 and Child (2-16) £4, Family Ticket (2 adults and 2 children – advance purchase only, not available on the day) £20. The proceeds will again support charities serving the people of Wiltshire.

Award winning actress Gillian Wright, who plays ‘Jean Slater’ in BBC’s Eastenders, will be rewarding dogs of all breeds and sizes next month when she hands out the prizes to winners at Dogs’ Day Out 2015 on Sunday April 19th.

Dogs’ Day Out offers a variety of fun events for all kinds of dogs to take part in, from gundog scurry competitions and pedigree showing to novelty classes and a have-a-go agility course.

This fun day out for all the family raises money for Medical Detection Dogs, a local charity which trains cancer-detecting dogs and medical alert dogs. This year organisers’ hope to raise more than £5,000 – enough to pay for the whole training of one cancer detection dog.

Held in beautiful parkland at Swanbourne, Bucks (just outside Milton Keynes / Aylesbury), Dogs’ Day Out starts at 11am and the final prize-giving takes place at 3pm.
    The fun includes:
    •gun dog scurry classes
•KC registered Companion Dog Show featuring pedigree classes
•Novelty dog show classes like waggiest tail and best trick
    •Have-a-go Agility course
•Free parking (donations can be made to the charity)
•Tractor rides, children’s fun and games
•Beer tent, BBQ, Tea, Coffee and Cake
    •Country stalls and dog equipment
•Raffle with great prizes including a trip round the Force India team HQ or a clay pigeon shooting session

Gillian Wright recently became an ambassador for Medical Detection Dogs. She will be bringing her dog Professor Scruff with her to help support Dogs’ Day Out. She said: “I became an Ambassador for Medical Detection Dogs after I went to an open day at their Great Horwood headquarters and heard an impressive and honest speech from Dr Claire Guest, as well as seeing for myself these amazing dogs at work. I’m delighted to help Dogs’ Day Out raise funds for MDD and I’m looking forward to handing out the prizes. And I’m sure Scruff is keen to try his paw at some of the events too!”

Dogs’ Day Out in aid of Medical Detection Dogs is on Sunday April 19th from 11am to 3pm at Swanbourne House School in The Park, Swanbourne, Bucks MK17 OHZ.
