23rd February is National Dog Biscuit Day.
We’re sure this is an important date for your dog and will be on your dog’s calendar, but it was news to us and we thought it might be news to you !!!
Dog biscuits and treats have come a long way from the days when dogs just got food “scraps” and left over bones and mouldy bread.
It is thought that the first basic dog biscuits were available from around the mid 1800’s and then in 1908, the F. H. Bennett Biscuit Co. of New York developed a commercial hard-baked, bone-shaped biscuits comprised of various minerals, cow’s milk and meat products, the Milk-Bone.
Today there is an extensive range to choose from with healthy options, dental friendly, vegetarian, and a rising number of dog bakeries delivering all sorts of tasty home-made treats. You can even order specially commissioned biscuits and “pup cakes” to celebrate your dog’s birthday.
Even the supermarket shelves include some fancy biscuit options as well as the traditional Bonio, Winalot Shapes and Gravy Bones and your local pet shop will have loads of varieties to treat your dog with.
However, in the spirit of National Dog Biscuit Day, MyPawsOn.com (with a little help from our resident Taster) has been trying out some tasty home-made recipes.
So inspired by Paul Hollywood meets Caesar Milan we have included a couple of our very own dog biscuit recipes for you to try. If your dog loves biscuits they will love you for making these tasty treats. The good news is they won’t judge you like Mary Berry in Bake-off so why not have a go.
