Valentine Heart Sandwich Dog Treat Recipe

With Valentines Day in mind we wanted to share our dog biscuit recipe for Valentine Heart Sandwich dog treats. Not only do these look lovely, they taste great and they are a healthy way to show your dog how much you love them.

INGREDIENTS

400 g (14 oz) plain flour

65 g (2.25 oz) cornmeal – or you can use oat bran

100g (2 oz) parmesan or other hard cheese

225 ml (8 fl oz) milk

1 beaten egg

Tub of cream cheese to fill (blended with fresh strawberries to colour)

METHOD

Combine all ingredients except the cream cheese and strawberries into a mixing bowl and mix to form a soft dough. You may need to use your hands to mix this up.

When mixed roll out to about 1 thick.

Cut out with a heart shaped cutter (you can cut these out with a knife if you don’t have a cutter).

Place on a baking tray that you have greased with a bit of butter.

To keep the biscuits flat you can cover them with a layer of foil or grease proof paper and hold this down with a second tray.

Cook at 180 degrees (gas mark 4) for 20 mins. You can take the foil and tray off for the last 5 mins.

While they are cooling make the strawberry cream cheese by blending or mashing the cream cheese and strawberries together.

Spread the strawberry cream cheese between 2 biscuit to make a sandwich.

These will keep in a sealed container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

You can make these without the strawberries and add a little red food colouring or just keep them plain. Your dog will be so impressed either way !!!
